dyna

nonstylized dancesmap
The dyna is a dance performed by trios of dancers; often – for example in the region of Kujawy – the dance was performed by girls only. Although it had a few variants, the dance always consisted of two parts. In the first part, dancers (girls) walked or ran in small steps to the front or to the back; in the second part the dancer in the centre made turns in alternate directions by hooking elbows with the partner on the right and the left side.

The dyna was known in the regions of Kujawy and Łęczyca, as well as in Mazovia. It was a dance in 3/4 or 3/8 metre, performed by trios of dancers or less frequently by couples. Mainly girls participated in the routine, but sometimes a boy danced in the middle, holding two girls by hands. The name of the dance most probably comes from the word "dyna" being repeated in the song accompanying the dance. Although a few variants of the dance existed, it has always consisted of two parts. In one of the variants, in the first part, dancers hold each other by the hand and walk or run with small steps to the front and/or backwards. In the second, more lively, part of the dance, the centre person makes full turns within two bars with their elbow hooked with an elbow of the girl on the right and on the left alternately. Forming little circles and whirling to the left or right was other variant of dancing the dyna.
